EA’s seven year contract to develop and publish titles based on the Lord of the Rings film property is now coming to close, with the rights subsequently heading back to Warner Bros. who intend to develop their own titles based on the property.

Given Warner Bros. is certainly a more visible entity in the games industry than it was in 2001, it’ll be interesting to see what they do with the license; especially in regard to potential titles based on the forthcoming Hobbit films due in 2011/2012 respectively.
