First Bioshock 2 Gameplay Footage Trailer Now Available

leave a comment »

Debuting mere hours ago was the very first gameplay footage of the highly anticipated sequel to 2007’s much acclaimed underwater dystopian FPS Bioshock.

If you don’t want trailer spoilers just click on the trailer link at the bottom of the page, if not, read on.

Confirming reports that you do indeed play the role of the Big Daddy, the trailer illustrated the various weapons at the players dispsoal such as flame throwers, rivet cannons and more besides. Visually, the trailer shows the tile to not be radically different from the previous title, with many of the same textures and a few of the same models re-used.

One cool moment in the trailer showed our Big Daddy chasing down the Big Sister into a massive, ornate room with a big glass window standing between them and the seabed. The Big Sister then proceeds to make three or four holes in the glass causing water to spray into the room (those water effects never get old) before finally the entire windows breaks under the pressure and the room is filled with water.

And it’s here that we realise that as the Big Daddy you can now swim.

The trailer shows us what we want to see. You get to play a Big Daddy, kill splicers and wonder around the (still) fantastically realised ruins of a destroyed dystopia. Even with those things however, the trailer seems perhaps a little over-familiar due in part to the fact that we’ve done most of this before and been to these very similar locales before.

Yes, I realise that this early days and the trailer only really shows two short sections, but I would hope that what we see next makes us look forward to Bioshock 2 and not just more of the same.
