Developers of Duke Nukem Forever, 3D Realms to close
Many news sources this morning are reporting that Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms, will be closing its doors due to insufficient funding to continue operation. A big part of this story is what will happen to the perpetually delayed (eleven years and counting) Duke Nukem Forever.
Well it turns out that when 3D Realms does indeed fold, publishing parent house Take-Two will retain the publishing rights for the oft-delayed wisecracking shooter. It transpires that Take-Two merely had a publishing agreement with 3D Realms and not any kind of funding arrangement, hence why development on the beleaguered title will presumably cease upon closure of the studio.
The sad irony of all this is that there was actually some hope for the title recently as 3D Realms co-found George Broussard confirmed that the project had just surpassed a key milestone.
Development on the PSP and DS Duke Nukem titles which are being coded by Apogee Software, remains unaffected by this.
