Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Details Emerge

Now that we have some details to go on, it’s time to spill the proverbial beans.

We know that players will revisit the familiar locales and encounter from Resident Evil 2 in the ‘chronicles’ on-rails FPS perspective. Indeed, the revisiting of Resident Evil 2 ties in quite nicely with the ‘Darkside’ subtitle, as this is a subtle nod to the series when it was actually a survival horror affair, and not just a gory shooter. As a result of this, the game will apparently leverage the creeping fear exuded so expertly in the classic second installment to dramatic effect.

Whilst players will be able to relive and revisit many of the events and locations from Resident Evil 2, Capcom also made it clear that other new locations will be available as well as other ‘main’ characters and plotlines deemed periphery to the main storyline of the 1997 survival horror classic.

The much vaunted co-op from it’s prequel returns, with players opting to control Resident Evil veterans Leon S Kennedy or Claire Redfield. Not content with adhereing to the basic conventions of the on-rail shooter genre, Capcom has decided to spice things up a bit.

Firstly we know that a new ‘evade’ move can be performed, allowing Leon or Claire to dodge incoming attacks or to avoid being swamped by the undead mobs. As well as this, Capcom also seems eager to experiment with various new camera angles to better encapsulate the paranoid fear that was so well illustrated in earlier titles in the franchise.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is currently due for release in Winter 2009 in all Western territories.
