Reminder: Crackdown 2 Demo Hits Xbox Live Today
Even though the game may not be out until July 9th, eager anarchists can get a taste of the highly anticipated sandbox shooter early as the Crackdown 2 demo hits the Xbox Live Marketplace tonight.
Weighing in at over 1GB, the demo has accelerated agent leveling; allowing you to try out some of the funky new abilities early, four player co-op and ‘demo achievements’.
Achievements.. in a demo? Riiight…
Anyway, it’s quite possibly the most packed demo we’ve seen in recent times so there should be enough content to give you an idea of the awesomeness to expect come July.
E3 2010: THQ Working On UFC Fitness Game
EA has one, Ubisoft has one and now THQ is working on one. The difference though? EA’s and Ubisoft’s efforts are being designed with fun, happiness and a sense of wellbeing in mind, whereas THQ’s effort is being worked on by guys who could physcially ruin you beyond repair.
Due for the Playstation Move, Kinect and Wii, UFC Fitness (a placeholder name it seems) the title will be available at the start of 2011.
Best get working on your sprawl.
E3 2010: Warhammer 40K Space Marine and MMO Dark Millennium Bring The Goods
Console owners! No more do you have to tie your experience of the Warhammer 40K universe down to that immeasurably dull Fire Warrior title that came out years back. THQ and developers Relic are bringing us a new 40K title that does not disgrace the source material it’s based on; far from it.
Due for release on 360 and PS3, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a third person action adventure in which you must guide your space marines through different worlds, fighting hordes of orks, Chaos and other evil bastards as you shoot, stab and hammerswing your way to victory.
Visually at least this looks frickin’ superb and makes me realise that perhaps Too Human should have been more like this and not, well, y’know shit.
Take a look at the trailer below:
No release date has yet been given.
PC owners! Your clamouring for an MMO based on the Warhammer 40K universe has been heard and at E3 we got the first taste of the forthcoming title, known as Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium.
Visually the game looks competent enough – mixing in the more mature stylings of the Space Marine title mentioned previously with some of the softer World Of Warcraft visual stylings.
Outside of this, little is known about the title, but it does look like it will do the franchise justice with a large gameworld, decent combat and of course, lots and lots of questing.
Take a look:
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium is due in 2011.
E3 2010: Fallout MMO Accepting Beta Sign Ups
After a massive hold up due to various legal problems and of course, a protracted development cycle, Interplay’s Fallout MMO is now finally accepting beta sign ups.

E3 2010: Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time Confirmed For 3DS
In what appears to be an emerging trend of converting older titles from their library into 3D, Nintendo have confirmed that Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time will arrive on the 3DS handheld.
No further details have been given.
E3 2010: Sony E3 Media Briefing Live Report
Like all the other highlights I shall be doing, this will be done in a shorthand-esque format style to ensure a timely delivery of the briefing highlights.
-Media Briefing Starts
After a inital montage we get Jack Tretton on stage. He talks about coming to E3 with momentum on their side. He talks about Sony’s ten year vision.
Kaz Harai comes out and goes straight into 3D talk. Yay. He talks about content justifying the medium, and of course, pimping out Sony 3DTV’s.
We then get a runthrough of current 3D supported titles. Wipeout, Pacific Rift etc…
Killzone 3 now gets a demonstration. Presumably in 3D.
The development lead for Killzone 3, demonstrates a level seen in Northern Helgan – basically a frozen shithole. The crowd is told to stick on the glasses.
Demo starts with a big ‘Pre-alpha code’ disclaimer at the top. We see Helghast on jet packs and various flying ships and robots admist an intense firefight. So far, so Killzone 2 largely. Still looks stunning however, a testament to the visual quality of it’s predecessor.
More snow levels. Now we go ice-berg hopping with a jetpack and then into another firefight on an oil rig.
This does look (and sound) very good indeed. Wish I could see it as intended though 😦
The crowd is stunned. Simply stunned, with perodic gasps erupting every so often. You might not agree with the implementation of 3D into gaming at this point, but you can’t deny the choice of poster boy to show it off.
Demo finishes. Lots of whooping and clapping.
Killzone 3 is due worldwide in Feb 2011.
It is also fully compatible with Playstation Move functionality at launch. Good stuff.
Kaz is back out.
He says Killzone 3 will do for 3D gaming what Avatar did for 3D films.
Big push on 3D titles. GT5, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Sly Cooper collection(!) and many more.
Many Playstation Move titles to be in 3D also. Nice crossover.
Another 3D game video is up and folks are told to stick the glasses back on.
Hmmm, appears to be a montage at this stage. And that’s exactly what it is. Ah well, all new tech/hardware needs a good montage in my book.
Lots of games shown as well as sports and movies to reinforce the idea of 3D being a key part of the ‘Playstation Family’.
Video ends.
Tretton is back. Telling us that 3D takes us one step closer to immersive gaming.
He talks about how many ways you can be relevant in people’s lives. He says that this year is the 15th annivesary of Playstation. He starts quoting facts and figures in regards to PS2 and new markets.
He talks about PS3 owners using their PS3 for more than games online; net browsing, netflix etc… More living room invasion talk it seems.
Now he talks about Playstation Move. He specifies about the accuracy of the device.
‘What happens in your hand, happens on screen’ he says.
Playstation Move is described as moving the Playstation brand forward.
Playstation Move will offer core and casual games. O RLY?
Now we’re onto how the device works. Basically it’s Eye Toy + Wand = Move. Accurate as hell though.
More focus on core gamer support. Don’t let us down!
He talks about the three sensors that the Move has and how this makes responsiveness almost instaneous. Now we get developers talking about it; all good as you might imagine. Dev’s seem properly excited about it though.
Kevin Butler comes on says that buttons are important and pokes at Kinect. Meow!
Montage ends.
We get more stuff about how important buttons are and how they aren’t ‘stirring the pot’ by talking about it. Yeah right.
Move and Standard versions of every game will be on the same disc. Yay for Blu-Ray!
He is talking about new Move titles.
Here we go!
Sorcery is announced. It’s a third person action game and the hero has a wand. Looks like Harry Potter so far. He shows us movement with the wand and it is indeed uber responsive and 1:1. Very cool.
He pulls out a potion to drink it and shakes the bottle using the wand. Gimmicky, but effective.
All spells are cast using the controller, and I have to say it looks like a lot ‘o’ fun. A whirlwind is created and then ‘steered’ using the wand. Looks great.
Actually, I fail to believe that EA isn’t all over this with a Harry Potter title in mind.
It’s big boss time, and like most demonstrations these days it ends abruptly.
Good stuff though.
Next we get a mention about how Move will ‘revolutionize’ your sports experience.
On comes Andrew Wilson from EA Sports. Tiger Woods 2011 is shown and again, precision of the device is pimped out.
The demonstration begins and we shown just how 1:1 the movement of the device is. Again, staggeringly precise.
He keeps getting the ball in the bunker. We’re told it’s ‘all about feel’. He putts and gets it in. Yep seems decent enough to me.
The functionality will be available as a downloadable patch for the existing version of the game and will be featured on a purported ‘Move Demo Disc’. Cool.
Another Move title is about to be announced. Heroes On The Move is announced. It appears to have Ratchet, Clank, Sly, Bentley. Jak & Daxter in a platforming style game. Seems competent enough indeed. Early in production though.
The Move apparently is meant to be geared toward all audiences. Coca-Cola is supporting the Playstation Move marketing campaign. The biggest brand partnership they have ever had apparently. Screw you Pepsi!
Kevin Butler is on stage! Says that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.
Refers to the Kinect event and the acrobats and sale on blue ponchos. Funny guy 🙂
Talks about the motion control battle and says it is time to focus on what really matters: The games. Yep, go for it.
Talks about how gaming is about staying up to 3AM to earn a trophy that isn’t real… but is. 🙂
This guy is a superb speaker.
He said that the Move was made so that everyone on Earth can get to ‘taste the PS3 sugar’.
He says not to hate on the casuals. Further piss taking out of Kinect.
Big cheesy promo with cheesy music about Move and talks about gaming – ‘Forever may he reign!’. Awesome. This guy is like the Jack Black of gaming.
Kevin Butler leaves and this briefing suddenly becomes 25% less entertaining.
The Playstation Move will launch in Europe on September 15th. The motion controller will be sold for $49.99 if you have the eye and $29.99 for the controller. There is also a bundle that has both of those items and sports champions for $99.99. A PS3 bundle with all of the above will cost $399.99. THere will be 25 titles by the end of year for it.
Ooooh, he name dropped a new Time Crisis title for Move!
Many games, such as Heavy Rain and Resi 5 will be patched up to allow Move functionality.
Another Move montage video lights up our screens.
Mr. Tretton returns to the stage. He refers to the ‘living room concept’ once again, about how it follows you everywhere.
Now he is talking about PSP. New campaign to ‘Step up’ the PSP. Funny advert follows, with Kevin Butler and a charasmatic kid called ‘Marcus’. Nice underlying theme of the ‘Full flavour’ gaming experience PSP gives versus ‘those crappy apps’ :). Quite well done I thought.
Back to Tretton and he talks about Peace Walker and how well people are doing with developing for PSP. Next up, is the camera driven ‘Invizimals’ and then God Of War: Ghosts of Sparta.
Quick tease incoming! Ghosts of Sparta is indeed a full prequel the footage is pre-rendered however. Good looking but a bit annoying when you think how good the game looks in-game.
More than 70 new titles due to hit PSP by December this year. Impressive. Glad they are still supporting it so well.
LBP2 is shown, looks good but I wonder who will spend all that time creating content?
PSN+ has been announced. Gives ‘free’ minis and PSone titles for a fee. Seems kinda pointless.
EA’s John Schappart is being brought out to talk about their ‘Sony future’.
He talks about the history of EA and playstation.
Now he talks about two games with exclusive content on Playstation. Medal Of Honour is up.
New character ‘Deuce’ is introduced. We are then told bout how good DICE is for the multiplayer in the game. A brand new multiplayer map is shown. It’s Diwagal Camp in Afghanistan. Looks nicely designed with narrow canyons, huts, installations and sniper friendly cliffs.
The limited Edition version of Medal Of Honor is exclusive to PS3 and will have an HD remastered version of Medal Of Honor: Frontline packaged in with it. Nice.
Dead Space 2 is up now.
The on-screen demonstration continues from the EA one shown earlier on. Holy hell does this look frantic. The big monster at the end of the cliffhanger is literally smashing through *everything* to get to Isaac. Again, visuals look superb. Crap! Now he just got shoved out into space with the monster holding onto him. Brilliant just brilliant.
Limited Edition version of Dead SPace 2 is exclusive to PS3, with a remastered version of Dead space: Extraction with Move support thrown him. Me like.
Tretton comes out and announces the arrival of… Holy Shit It’s Valve!! There is a surprise after all! It’s Gabe ‘I hate PS3’ Newell! What the fuck!
Newell apologies for his comments towards PS3. He then goes onto say that games are evolving. Portal 2 logo is shown on the monitor…
He announces that Portal 2 is coming to PS3! Great news! He wants the PS3 version to be the best version on any console. About time!
Here we go with first Portal 2 footage on PS3.
No more boxy rooms. More organic environments and a creepy GlaDOS voice over. Looks brilliant.
It is due sometime in 2011.
Tretton is back talking about Final Fantasy XIV. Trailer is on.
Looks very nice and all real-time too. Very nice indeed.
Trailer is done and Jack is talking about Mafia II, specifically PS3 exclusive day one DLC that has unique missions and gameplay.
Now onto Ubisoft. Assassins Creed will have an exclusive package of DLC missions for PS3.
Multiplayer beta for the title is PS3 exclusive also.
In game footage is shown, with teams of players taking out targets, special abilites and more. Could be good 🙂
Jack says ‘exclusive’ is his new favourite word. He talks about the quality of exclusive content and then we get a montage games due out for the platform. Assorted third party titles (Mafia II, true crime, marvel vs capcom 3, dead space II etc..), and Move stuff too.
And Gran Turismo 5. Looking sublime as always.
Jack is now talking about GT5. New trailer for it too.
Very nice trailer, but I have problems telling the difference between the pre-rendered stuff and the real-time visuals with this game.
Ah bollocks, my stream is looping.
Ok now.
Gorogeous trackside detail I must say, especially the tokyo night time track with the pink blossoms falling, illuminated against the moon.
Hopefully we’ll get a date. Tell us we’ll get a sodding date!
November 2nd! Yay!
Infamous 2 is shown now. Lots of rooftop running, ledge shimmying and lighting is back. It seems the whole system has turned against Cole, our hero. ‘Some shit never changes’, then he starts using ice powers ‘Maybe somethings do’. Cool. This does look very nice indeed.
One last surprise…
An advert about car combat game… Looks like we’re up for Twisted Metal…
Oh yes! It is! Twisted Metal ice cream truck comes on stage! Complete with topless machete wielding maniac in tow. David Jaffe is up there!
Twisted Metal PS3 is due in 2011. Gameplay footage! He is in a helicopter, firing missiles at other cars below as they are trashing Main Street. 16 player online is confirmed, along with 2-4 offline multiplayer. Graphically it doesn’t look that hot, but it does look very intense indeed. It is early though. Oooh, people can ride shotgun and snipe other folks from other vehicles. Nice.
A new play mode is shown. It’s called ‘Nuke’ and is all about faction play (sweet tooth faction, doll faction and so on). The mode involves destroying the opposing factions statue before they ‘nuke’ yours. Every faction has missle launchers and what you have do is grab the faction leader and ‘sacrafice’ him to it so that you can do a missle launch which is player gudied. It takes three hits on a statue to win the match. It all looks crazy intense.
Jack is back and finishes up, talking about their commitment to content and innovation.
And with that we are done.
No Square-Enix bug unveiling or anything, no Last Guardian (cry) and no ICO/Shadow HD collection. Surprising. Not a bad show though, not bad at all.
E3 2010: Full List Of Announced 3DS Game Shown At IGN
There are some nice little surprises there too:
SuperStreetFighter IV
Paper Mario
Starfox 64 3D
PilotWings Resort
New Professor Layton
Dead Or Alive 3D
To name just a few.
Take a look at the link below for the full list:
E3 2010: Konami 3DS Metal Gear Title Is Metal Gear Solid 3(D)
After Nintendo’s Megaton filled conference, eager showgoers were able to get a taste of 3DS games on the showfloor.
As a result, Kojima’s 3DS touted Metal Gear turned out to be a fully fledged (full PS2 visuals) 3D reimagining of Metal Gear Solid 3.
Holy shit!
E3 2010: Nintendo Live E3 Media Briefing Report
Like all the other highlights I shall be doing, this will be done in a shorthand-esque format style to ensure a timely delivery of the briefing highlights.
-Media Briefing Starts
Ok so the briefing starts with the Reginator! Good start 🙂
He welcomes everyone and we begin to get underway. He talks about the buzz of technology, and quotes HD, 3D, motion control and other jargon. He wants to adjust the perspective, saying that tech is just a tool – it is the end product that matters.
The best experiences come when tech and game design are perfectly matched.
He will show us how Ninty is raising the bar.
Wii is shown. NEW ZELDA!! We get an evolution of Link and then it finishes on a more adult link. We get in-game footage!! Not much, but it looks awesome! A mixture of a mature style and wind waker it seems. It’s called Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword!
Shigsy is there! With his trusty shield and sword! He goes on to talk about the history of the Legend Of Zelda series. He wanted a game that would allow him to use both sword and shield freely. He refers to Wiimotion Plus as allowing this freedom. Nunchuk is used to raised the sheild and the wiimote for other interactions.
In-game demo! He is showing the intearactions with the WiiMote and Nunchuk but he sucks, so Shigsy teleports(!) on stage to show folks how it is meant to be done. War Miyamoto!
Shigsy wants the interaction between the player and the controller to be natural and seemeless. You want to block with the shield, then you do the appropriate gesture. You want to cut someone down, again you make the right movement. Hmmm, 1:1 motion plus tech should make this feel as responsive as it looks on stage. Impressive.
Miyamoto owns the enemy (a big gaping plant) and we move on to the next part of the stage. If you hold the sword up to the sky you can charge it up (Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats Ho! *ahem*). So far so good, too early though to see if our fears regarding dungeon design have been realised at this stage.
The interface seems quite intutive and helpful too – Illustrating the correct movements required for the correct actions to be performed, so you’re not just sat there waggling for dear life.
The precision of the sword strikes doesn’t appear to be 1:1, but appear close enough that it is convincing (think slighty better than Red Steel 2). Shaking the nunchuk makes Link roll it seems. Ergh, the interpreter is a tool, he is talking over Miyamoto at times.
Inventory selection seems easy to do. Slingshot accuracy seems reliably accurate too – should make it easy to nail any golden spiders lurking about methinks.
Back to the sword swingin’ again. I do have to say, this all looks so effortless – it’s amazing what you can do with a game when you build it from the ground up with a new type of controller input.
Now onto Archery. Ooh, not good. They appear to be having interference and are telling people to turn their mobile devices off. Apple conference anyone?
The idea of pulling back on the c-stick and letting go to fire the arrow seems quite well realised, but the interference is fucking it up. Now we go onto boomerang bug throwing (yep the boomerang has bug wings). Interference fucks that up too. Any second now Miyamoto is gonna ingest a flame mushroom and burn all those pesky iPhones in the audience. Kill two birds with one stone 🙂
Now we see the whip being used to grab items from a distance. Interestingly, you can switch between items instantly, allowing some cool looking combos to be created. Shigsy assures us that the game plays smoothly and cleanly and that the hiccups were interference related. He hopes people give it a fair shake when they play it on the showfloor.
Release date; game is due in 2011. Not surprising.
In-game trailer is shown. Lots of different dungeons, environs, bosses, tools and enemies are shown. By all accounts this should be rocking the awesome-scale.
Good way to start the briefing.
Reggie is back.
He tells us the Zelda is just the start.
He begins to talk about new experiences (a familiar theme it seems).
Introducing new titles now. Refers Pro Evo, Madden, NBA, other franchises and then talks about NBA Jam. He talks about NBA Jam Wii being on the showfloor.
He is talking about a new Mario sports title for Wii and the unique places mario can go. The title is called Mario Sports Mix.
Trailer is shown with a mixture of hockey, basketball and volleyball. We see a number of different stages including lava pits and so on. Different power-ups are shown also. It is due in 2011. Not bad for multiplayer fun fests I reckon.
He talks about people being full of shit. Using last years quote that ‘Wii momentum is slowing down’ and that ‘Casual wii owners don’t buy games’ (oh, they do, it’s just shovelware bollocks). He counterpoints each quote with facts and figures.
He says that the popularity of Wii lies with ‘Bridge games’; titles which combine core and casual appeal. Holy shit! Mario Kart Wii has sold 22m copies!! Really?! I call bullshit.
New title is about to be shown. Wii Party.
It’s a party game that uses your Mii with lots of different mini games to play. It is due this holiday season. A nice little entertainer for the casuals I reckon. Not quite the ‘bridge’ title he says though.
Next title up is Just Dance 2 by Ubisoft. And FUCK that is some awful music they have playing over the promo. You can do dancing duets and a just ‘sweat’ mode to burn those pesky calories. It also supports up to eight players. No date given.
Yay! They haven’t forgotten about Golden Sun DS! It has a substitle – Dark Dawn. In-game footage is showing now. Looks very nice indeed – full 3d models, towns and dungeons. The stylus is used in different ways to affect puzzles, such as dragging statues across or creating runes on the ground. Whoa, we have massive detailed bosses that take up two screens. Looks very nice indeed. A proper AAA title for the DS, it’s due this holiday season – woo!.
Reggie refers ‘golden’ and then we go to a promo and it looks like Goldeneye Wii remake.
Trailer is shown. Daniel Craig is now Bond (Bye pierce!). Splitscreen and online multiplayer. You can be Oddjob in MP! Yay! Seems pretty good actually, and hell, the Wii needs a decent FPS. That gets LOTS of cheers and whooping. I’ll remain quietly optimistic.
He talks about Goldeneye being exclusive to Wii and arrives in store this holiday. Good stuff.
Talks about a different kind of hero – Mickey Mouse. Epic FUCKING Mickey! Let’s go! It’s exclusive to Wii. A whole new direction for Mickey. Warren Spector comes out along with Adam Creighton who worked on the game. Spector is taking over and will be showing us the game.
The game is set across eighty years of Disney animation legacy. He is showing us ‘Venture land’ which is a quest zone. The cut-scenes look… amazing. My eyes are lying to me, this can’t be on the Wii… yet it is. We see some platforming and a targeting recticle is being used to fire paint. Warren talks about drawing and erasing, through the use of paint and thinner. Using these you can destroy and restore parts of each world. Play style matters we are told.
Lots of references to multi-branching narrative and gameplay. Good stuff. Appears to be a platforming RPG. The paint can be used to create platforms for example, and the thinner used to break down walls. He now talks about action zones.
The sodding stream has baad feedback. They need to sort this shit out.
Still fucked up, but we see a steamboat willy inspired world, many other worlds will be present and accounted for too. He says it’s fun to do the impossible and combine that with worthwhile inspiration. He says it is playable on the show floor.
He talks about a new kirby game!
Looks like a 2d platformer with charming sketch/crayon style visuals. Including a lovely creasing effect which happens when Kirby pulls something together. Kirby just made a kirby tank and is destroying enemies! Kirby’s Epic Yarn is the name of the game and it is coming to Wii!
He is now talking about Dragon Quest IX. Looks like he’ll be pimping the Western release.
Which he is. There are new maps for the Western release.
It’s due in July.
Metroid Other M is up now. Straight into in-game goodness. Looks like a cross between 2D platforming and Metroid Prime style 3D shooting. Looks good, if not overly surprising.
Reggie talks about exploration and isolation being the core of the game, with Other M having a more enomtional hook than previous titles. It is due on Aug 31st.
Retro Studios project… Hmmm Donkey Kong??
OMG.. It IS Donkey Kong!! It’s a 2D platformer, it’s like Donkey Kong Country! WIN! Lovely, lovely visuals (Who’d have thought the Wii would still have some juice). The DK music plays as DK and Diddy tear through a mine cart level, jungles and other zones as they scoop up bananas. Looks brilliant. In fact! It’s called Donkey Kong Country Retruns! It’s out this Holiday!
He talks about going into the future of gaming. Talks about Mario 64 moving us into 3D platformer and the Wiimote getting us up off our asses. Looks like this could be 3DS.
Yep here we go.
Let’s see then. Nope, he is still saying that 3D sucks for a lot of things because of the glasses. He also says how expensive 3DTV at home will be. I can see where he is going with this.
He talks about ample game content being available Day 1. Here we go with a video.
Please be good.
Video showed fuck all.
Stop the cockteasing asshole! Here we go, a zoom in on the unit. Looks like a DSi from the outside (case closed). Iwata comes out and announces 3DS. It DOES look like DSi but with the upper screen (the 3D one) being bigger (as expected). Looks like it has an analogue stick. He talks about making 3D gaming a reality.
Incoming demonstration.
There is a slider which toggles the 3D function. Still a touch screen based console (duh) and is recognised as the official successor to the NDS (no more fucking remodels!).
He is talking about the ‘nature’ of the graphics. He said that improvements have been made to the graphics capability. He is talking about control. The ‘slide pad’, is what the analogue stick is. The machine also has a gyrosensor too (think iPhone4). It is fully backwards compatible with DSi. It has a camera with two leneses. You can take photos and view them in 3D. Cool shit.
The machine can do 3D movies too?!? Awesome! Avatar 3D! In mini-3D 🙂
Tangled, Legend of the Guardian and How to Train a dragon are all being shown on the showfloor later to leverage this feature.
Gamers care about games he says. Fucking right. Take note MS.
He is now talking about ‘Project Sora’. The game is specifically designed for 3DS. Looks like it will be based on an existing character. KID ICARUS! HOLY SHIT!!!
Kid Icarus: Uprising. Graphically it looks superb. Far beyond what the DS can do. Easily PSP level. Massive landscapes, high res models, advanced graphical effects; it all looks superb. Kid Icarus itself looks like a God Of War esque title (minus the maturity obviously). Fuck. That is a bombshell.
He encourages people to see it for themselves.
He talks about 3DS periodically searching for WiFi access when in ‘sleep’ mode to communicate with other 3DS’. The 3DS supports automatic wireless communication regardless of what is being played on the other 3DS. Multi-tasking. Shit, that must be a monstrous processor at the heart of that mother fucker.
He talks about free access to online features. He talks about it being Ninty’s job to build an install base on good software.
He talks about there being a lot of thrid party support. He says that first party stuff is coming too, 3D Nintendogs (Well, that’s that then). Lots of third party support for it seems.
Level 5 and Square Enix are supporting it along with EA, Activision, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft.
New Metal Gear is coming. New Resident evil is coming. New Kingdom hearts is coming.
That right there, is how you debut new hardware.
3DS presentation is in the bag.
We get a lot of devs giving their opinions. Most are either like ‘brilliant’ and a few were like ‘What the fuck’ to start with. Overwhelmingly positive as you might expect.
One developer touched on an interesting fact: The 3DS has all three types of control – DPAD, Analogue stick and Touch/Motion Control. Should make for some inspired stuff.
We now go back to Sir. Reggie.
He says that they promised something for everyone. He basically says that they delivered (can’t really argue with that).
He talks about additional news and content being unveiled later today.
We then get quite a funny advert for the 3DS in which Reggie gets set on fire by Bowser. Youtube it. Seriously.
He is giving everyone present at E3 – It’s the 3DS babes, who have a 3DS attached to them.
Their job will be to show folks what the 3D effect is like as they work their way through the crowd. Each person present there will get to see it. He is also making the new Zelda title playable for folks there.
The show concludes as we get roaming footage of lucky journo bastards getting to play all this lovely new stuff. Ooh just realised – No price or release details were given!
That is how you put on a show.
No fucking Cammie Dunaway either! WIN!
Very good showing indeed.
E3 2010: Ubisoft Shows Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
This was in all likelihood the shining star of Ubisoft’s conference.
A mission was shown from the single-player campaign of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and good lord, does it look fucking awesome.
Dressed in a deliberately muted palette of seaside greys, our demo starts off with a tactical insertion on a beach with the eventual aim of taking a shoreline installation. The first thing that you notice, after a bad guy gets popped in the back of the head from the player sporting a cool invisibility suit, is the chatter. Holy shit, there is a lot of chatter, and it’s all low-spoken badass tactical jargon chatter too like ‘Tango setup on your movement’ and so on.
It really immerses you in the stealth and espionage aspect of Future Solider, brilliantly selling you the need for quietness and flair over storming through and blasting everything in sight.
The radio chatter also has a purpose too. It can be used for joint-commands. For example, in Rainbow Six: Vegas style, you can identify targets of opportunity to be taken down by your comrades and wait for the countdown – ‘3,2,1, fire’, to complete a smooth combined action which kills four or five enemies simulatenously.
I have to mention that invisibility suit again. It’s awesome. Completely freaking insanely good to look at too, with ripples coursing through the suit when you interact with solid objects in invisibility mode. It really makes you feel like an invisible, tactical killer.
At the end of the demo, everything goes to hell and the game effortlessly breaks from being a stealthy, cerebral experience to the frenetic pace of an accomplished cover based third person shooter.
This game just planted a big ‘!’ on my radar for games to look for this year.
It should also be on your radar too. Unless you have no eyes.
Look at the demonstration below:
