E3 2012 – EA Press Conference: Crysis 3 Gets Demonstrated & Trailered

with one comment

Another game that was practically guaranteed to make the cut for the EA E3 presser was Crysis 3.

To that end, Crytek showed off an extended gameplay sequence and a single-player trailer to top off their segment. Amusingly, the Crytek chap spoke at length about the great sandbox FPS experience that Crysis 3 was to become.  Um, sandbox? Really? It looked just as linear as the last one which was about as far away from being a sandbox FPS as you possibly could be without calling yourself Call of Duty.

Videos for both the gameplay demonstration and the trailer can be seen below.

Give em’ a gander:

I will post up a better version of the gameplay demo as soon as one becomes available.  Thanks for understanding.

Crysis 3 is due to be released on 360, PS3 and PC in February, 2013.

E3 2012 – EA Press Conference: Medal of Honor Warfighter On-stage Demonstration And MP Trailer

with one comment

A predictable key component of EA’s press conference was always going to be Medal of Honor: Warfighter and EA did not disappoint.

Showing us an on-screen demonstration of an extended single-player sequence, as well as a multiplayer trailer, fans of the franchise and well, shooty things in general, ended up being pretty well serviced.

Take a look at the on-stage demonstration and the multiplayer trailer in the embeds below.  Oh and if you don’t like Linkin Park, you might want to turn the volume down a jot on the multiplayer trailer; it gets ear-violating loud at points:

Medal of Honor: Warfighter is due to arrive on 360, PS3 and PC platforms on October 26th, 2012.

E3 2012 – EA Press Conference: Sim City 5 Trailered

leave a comment »

A nice little gem tucked away amongst the sweaty footballers, screaming guns and gory sphincters of EA’s E3 2012 conference, was the first gameplay trailer for Sim City 5 by developer Maxis.

It looks great.  Though, I can’t say i’d be any good at it – i’d build this huge, fucking sprawling metropolis and then marvel at my creation; forgetting of course, to plumb any of the waterworks – starving my newfound city in the process.

Have a look at the trailer and see if you would fair any better than me (of course you will):

Sim City 5 is due on PC in February 2013.

E3 2012 – EA Press Conference: Dead Space 3 On-Stage Demonstration

with one comment

What a way to kick off your conference; EA showed off a co-op on-stage demonstration of Dead Space 3.

To say it looked incredible, would be some sort of disgusting understatement.  Those lighting effects are going to cause my 360 to have a stroke I reckon.

Take a look for yourself:

Dead Space 3 is due to arrive on 360, PS3 and PC platforms in February, 2013.

Microsoft E3 2012: Summer of Arcade Details (Shunted from the conference because MS thought you preferred to hear about social apps instead. And Usher.)

with one comment

Bit of a public service thing going on here.

Completely absent from their E3 presser were any details about their ‘Summer of Arcade’ promotion for this year that typically, Xbox 360 owners have come to enjoy.  For the uninitiated, The Summer of Arcade promotion typically brings together four or five highly regarded Xbox Live Arcade titles during the Summer period.

In the past, the promotion has spawned and raised awareness of such gems as Braid, Limbo, Shadow Complex, Trials HD and the seminal Castle Crashers.  This year, auidences wouldn’t have had a fucking clue what was going on in this year’s promotion as the details of which were left on Major Nelson’s Blog over at xbox.com instead of being an actual part of the Microsoft presser itself.

No, MS in all of their wisdom, thought that the vast gaming massive would much rather want to see unveilings of region-specific (read: The US) social apps and Usher on stage for a total of nearly forty-five minutes, than running a two-minute sizzle reel of five really quite decent looking summer gaming attention grabbers.

Anyhow, below you can find a list of the Summer of Arcade games (dates and prices will be announced shortly it seems).

Oh, and you’re welcome.

(Taken from the MS Blog)

  • “Deadlight” (Tequila Works/Microsoft Studios). “Deadlight” is a puzzle platformer, where the player must take advantage of the main character’s agility to solve obstacles, and dodge zombies, manipulating the many interactive elements of the scenery. With more walking corpses than bullets, the feeling of danger is constant.
  • “Dust: An Elysian Tail” (Humble Hearts/Microsoft Studios). As the mysterious warrior, Dust, your action-packed journey will take you from peaceful glades to snowy mountaintops and beyond. Battle dozens of enemies at once with an easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master combat system, and uncover the story of an ancient civilization on the brink of extinction as you fight to uncover your own past in a gorgeous hand-painted world.
  • “Hybrid” (5TH Cell/5TH Cell). “Hybrid” is a pioneering third person shooter set in the near future, where global conflict exists between a species known as the Variant and a rebel human faction known as the Paladins. 5TH Cell strives to give players a completely new gameplay experience never seen before in the genre.
  • “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD” (Robomodo/Activision). “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD” takes the best elements of the classic “THPS” games and gives them a fresh update to create an all new skateboarding experience. Tapping into fans’ muscle memories, and combining sharp visuals with the best controls ever in a Tony Hawk game, the feel is cutting edge yet timeless.
  • “Wreckateer” (Iron Galaxy/Microsoft Studios). “Wreckateer” uses Kinect to put you in control of a massive castle-wrecking ballista. With the help of Wreck and Tinker, travel the land and destroy 60 castles using six magical projectiles, and explore the infinite ways you can wreak havoc with “Wreckateer’s” fully-dynamic destruction.

E3 2012 – Microsoft Press Conference: South Park: The Stick of Truth Gets Trailered

with one comment

“Jews can’t be saviours, remember?”.

That line couldn’t really be uttered in any other game except for a South Park game.  Well, any game that wanted to be sold legally anyhow.

And so it is that South Park: The Stick of Truth got it’s first proper trailer during Microsoft’s E3 2012 conference which really displays just how Obsidian have managed to nail the ‘crappy’ aesthetic from the show.  A point of some pride it seemed as South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone were on-stage telling the crowd just how much effort went into making the game look as accurately shit as it does.

I think it looks chuffing brilliant personally.

You can observe the trailer for the game below:

South Park: The Stick of Truth is due to arrive on 360, PC and PS3 platforms in early 2013.

E3 2012 – Microsoft Press Conference: Fable: The Journey Trailer

with one comment

During their E3 presser, Microsoft snuck in a little trailer for forthcoming Kinect-only title, Fable: The Journey.

I have to say that this trailer didn’t do much for the game at all; making it come off as some sort of fantasy based light-gun game (with your hands obviously), instead of the carriage and horse riding adventure element that they showed initally.

See for yourself:

Fable: The Journey is due later this year exclusively for Kinect on Xbox 360.  *Shudders*, I’ve just realised what that makes me sound like.

E3 2012 – Microsoft Press Conference: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 On-Stage Demonstration Shown

with 3 comments

Perhaps the largest non-surprise of the presser (besides all the social app tripe naturally), was the unveiling of an extended gameplay sequence for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.  The demonstration offered little in the way of surprises that would knock you on your ass, but the new(ish) setting did provide a few new gameplay opportunities such as deep-impact sighted rifles which shoot through the side of trucks and all manner of drone and remote tech to aid you in your latest patriotic mass-murdering spree.

Continuing their precedent of hoovering up time-exclusive DLC rights, Treyarch confirmed that 360 users would get first dibs on day one DLC.

I’ve embedded the gameplay demonstration below, see what you think:

Call of Duty: Black Ops II will come out on 360, PC and PS3 platforms this November.

E3 2012 – Microsoft Press Conference: Resident Evil 6 On-stage Gameplay Demonstration

with one comment

Another game that got the 0n-stage gameplay treatment was Capcom’s Resident Evil 6.  Showing off the series now trademark third person shootery action, mixed in with an (un)healthy amount of scripted QTE sequences, the gameplay sequence nevertheless delivered all of the cinematic bombast that one would expect from the newest instalment in the Resident Evil franchise.

They also announced that the 360 version would be having day one DLC first before any other format.  Swell.

Indulge your retinas below:

Resident Evil 6 is due on 360, PC and PS3 platforms on November 12th, 2012.
