E3 2012 – Sony Press Conference: The Last Of Us Gameplay Footage Gets Shown – One Of The Games Of The Show So Far.
Words really can’t do justice to the intense, desperate and bleak brutality that the Naughty Dog developed title, The Last Of Us, puts in front of you.
The world that our father and daughter protagonists live in is nasty, harrowing and largely hopeless with the level of violence employed being an approximation of what is required to survive.
The gameplay that was shown for The Last Of Us really blew me away; gorgeously detailed environs, atmospheric sound and chatter, a great buddy-style combat system and what seems to be a hugely dynamic and intuitive inventory system.
All of these things add up to make The Last Of Us one of my most highly anticipated games for the PS3 next year and when you watch the trailer below, it’ll be one of yours too.
For sure.
The Last Of Us is due to be released exclusively on the PS3 sometime in 2013.
E3 2012 – Sony Press Conference: God Of War Ascension Gets On-Stage Demo Time
One of the biggest releases for the PS3 in 2013 will surely be God of War: Ascension. Sony obviously realise this too hence why they stuck it on stage for a good long while with some bloke playing it and showing us why it will be one of their tentpole releases for the platform next year.
Focusing on what seems to be the single-player campaign; Kratos looked to be as deadly as he has ever been, deftly wielding his twin blades in violent fashion, but this time, he is able to manipulate time to stymie his enemies; freezing them in mid-air or slowing them down while he moves in for the big fat kill (sorry, I just had the unquenchable need to stick in a Sin City pun in there for some reason).
There is also a hugely cinematic boss fight at the end too; usual God of War fare then.
Have a glance at embedded video below for the on-stage demonstration of God of War: Ascension:
Regarding the above video; I’ll post a HD version as soon as it appears on the interubes.
God of War Ascension is due for release exclusively on the PS3 on March 12th, 2013.
E3 2012 – Sony Press Conference: Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale PS3/Vita Cross-Platform Play Shown On-Stage
The previously announced Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale title was confirmed to be coming to the PS Vita during Sony’s E3 Presser.
Better yet, not only does the game not look totally shit (not totally), but PS3 and PS Vita owners can fight against each other on the crossover brawler through crossplay.
Additionally, Nathan Drake and the Big Daddy from Bioshock were announced as secret characters for the title.
Have a look at the trailer and on-stage demonstration below:
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is due on PS3 and Vita this Christmas.
E3 2012 – Sony Press Conference: Heavy Rain Developer Quantic Dream Shows Off ‘Beyond’. Looks Gorgeous. Trailer Inside.
The latest title from Heavy Rain developers Quantic Dream, was always going to make a splash, where better then, for such a splash to be made than right at the start of the Sony E3 presser.
Showing Quantic Dream’s considerable flair for the cinematic and of course, beautiful gorgeous visuals, Beyond aims to take us on a journey to discover what lies beyond death with an innocent young woman, played with expert nuance and aplomb by Juno star, Ellen Page.
Boasting an eerily close visage to it’s voice actress, the level of facial animation and sheer amount of detail almost make us forget that LA Noire and it’s facial tech even existed. This is some seriously next-gen looking stuff, with Ellen Page’s character evoking such a powerful level of emotion without saying word – just mere muscle twitches in her face are enough to convey palpably strong levels of emotion. It’s powerful stuff, but despite this, no real gameplay was shown, though it certainly wouldn’t be unreasonable to infer that the game would play very similar to Heavy Rain; mixing up cinematic exploration and QTE action scenes.
Take a look at the breathtaking trailer for yourself:
Beyond is due to release sometime in 2013 on PS3.
E3 2012 – EA Releases Launch Trailer For Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Expansions No.2 – Close Quarters
Following on from their Battlefield Premium announcement that was leaked here, comes the release of the launch trailer for the first Battlefield 3 DLC expansion pack that has launched since the game did back in September last year (Back to Karkand was available at launch).
Each of the Battlefield 3 expansion packs have been designed with a particular focus in mind. Therefore, it shouldn’t be too difficult to guess what playstyle ‘Close Quarters’ will be gunning for. The next pack after this one, Armored Kill, is due to be released in September and will focus almost exclusively on vehicle based combat; giving you huge maps with which to ply your thunderous exchanges of vehicle against vehicle in.
Take a look at the trailer below and see if the focus on infantry combat in ‘Close Quarters’ floats your boat:
Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is available now for free on the PS3 if you’re a Battlefield Premium member. A week later for 360 and PC owners who are Battlefield Premium members. A week staggered after that for PS3 and then PC and 360 formats for £9.99/1,200 Microsoft Points respectively.
The official release schedule for the expansion can be seen here: http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/close-quarters
E3 2012 – XCOM Enemy Unknown (No, not the shit shooter one, the other one) Gets A Bit Of Trailerage
2K Games and Sim City developer Maxis have released a trailer for their forthcoming strategy based XCOM title, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
As well as cribbing the moniker of the much loved turn based original which was released way back in the nineties, the game also boasts the same third person perspective, strategic gameplay and reserach and development to improve your soldiers, equipment, vehicles and even your home base.
You also get to autopsy aliens too. Probably.
Though the trailer perhaps doesn’t show off the game in it’s best like (it looks like any other third person shooter really), trust me when I say that the game is shaping up to be a polished and highly enjoyable strategical gem.
The trailer can be seen by clicking on the embed below:
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is due to release on 360, PS3 and PC platforms this October.
E3 2012 – Capcom’s DmC Gets A Brand New Trailer; Much Swearing & Attitude Contained Therein – Release Date Of January 15th, 2013 Confirmed
Sneaking under the radar whilst the Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft conferences were going on, was the latest trailer for Capcom’s Ninja Theory developed Devil May Cry reboot; DmC.
More of Dante’s unabashed attitude was on show alongside a generous smattering of in-game and cut-scene footage, all adding up to reinforce my increasing belief that this really won’t be shit at all.
Nope not at all.
See for yourself:
DmC is due to be released on 360, PS3 and PC platforms on January 15th, 2013.
E3 2012 – Ubisoft Conference: Brand New IP ‘Watch Dogs’ Unveiled – Looks Like A Cross Between Assassins Creed & Hacker. Looks Unbelievable.
Ok. We all knew that Assassins Creed 3 would steal the show for Ubi right? Sure, Splinter Cell would be hovering around in the same playground, but really, it was AC3’s time to shine and enjoy the spotlight without worry of peer or compeitition.
That plan went right out of the fucking window with ‘Watch Dogs’ a brand new IP from Ubisoft that puts the player in the shoes of a high tech espionage agent who can literally hack anything and turn the city to his advantage in order to terminate a target or secure information. It demonstrated on-stage and looked brutal, hard-edged and uncompromising. It looked like some crazy bastard cross between Assassins Creed, Hacker and the Nolan Bat-verse, yet somehow, it transcended it’s supposed inspiration with a style and flair all it’s own.
E3 game of the show so far. By far.
I’ll stop blabbering now, just watch the video of the demonstration below:
Watch Dogs is due to be released on platforms to be confirmed. A date is to be announced.
E3 2012 – Ubisoft Conference: Far Cry 3 On-Stage Demonstration & Trailer
Ubisoft couldn’t really have asked for a more impactful (or controversial) opening salvo for their press conference (disregarding that Just Dance 4 bollocks) than Far Cry 3.
Blood, boobs, tigers, drugs and death; it’s all here.
Despite reaffirming the accepted belief that the game is completely mental it still manages to be a solid and robust open-world shooter, the on-stage demonstration below certainly didn’t pull any punches.
See for yourself:
Far Cry 3 is due to be released this September on 360, PS3 & PC.
