Ubisoft to Bring The Big Guns To Eurogamer Expo 2012 – Assassins Creed 3, Far Cry 3 and Just Dance 4 All Playable

leave a comment »

THIS is one reason why you should be heading to the EG Expo this year – playable Assassins Creed 3. Playable Far Cry 3, also at the Expo, is another.

The Eurogamer Network has announced that Ubisoft will be present at their annual Eurogamer Expo show this year in some force indeed.  Assassins Creed 3, Far Cry 3 and Just Dance 4 (which will have a bus all to itself) as well as other Ubisoft titles will be all playable at the event.  Bravo indeed.

Really, if you consider yourself any sort of gamer you should come along – it’s chuffing brilliant.  You get to play the latest games before they are released, attend developer sessions with some of the industry’s best talent, unearth some fine independent games in their Indie Games Arcade and have packets of Chilli Heatwave Doritos tossed at you every time you try and leave the place among other things.

It’s brilliant I tell thee.  Grab your tickets here before they all disappear like Jimmy Carr’s stand-up career.

Like games? Got a ticket? No? SORT IT OUT.

The Eurogamer Expo is due to take place this year on September 27-30 at Earls Court in London.

Community Spotlight: Hate-Me Gaming

leave a comment »

A crackling little gaming community if there ever was one.

These days it can be so difficult to find a group of like minded gamers who are both great gamers and great people (in my experience the former rarely breeds the latter).  It’s a relief then that community gaming website Hate-Me Gaming are some of the most passionate and welcoming gamers you could ever hope to run into.

Running the whole gamut of what you would expect from a quality, community focused gaming website, the talented chaps over at Hate-Me Gaming do pretty much everything ranging from hosting online gaming sessions, podcasts, video walkthroughs, their own Minecraft machima series and much more that it would be a crying shame not to get involved with them.

Their latest video output, a Day Z video diary chronicling a daring nighttime rescue can be seen below and is well worth casting your eyes across:

Gorgeous Looking Water Physics Platformer ‘Walter’, Emerges From Former Test-Drive Unlimited Dev Blossom Minds – Debut Trailer Released

leave a comment »

Blossom Minds, an off-shoot of Test Drive Unlimited developer Eden Games has today released the trailer for it’s inaugral effort – a water physics platformer that goes by the pun-tastic name of ‘Walter’.

Besides boasting a charming art-style and looking utterly gorgeous, Walter looks like on initial impression at least that it will play as well as it looks.  Playing as a sentient blob of water with eyes, the titular ‘Walter’ can change his mass, form and density to suit any situation.  See a long series of peaks and trough tubing that needs to be overcome? Walter can transform himself into a trickle of water to speedily race up and down the tubes far quicker than if he was to remain as a blob of water; otherwise forced to slowly plod through.  Another great example of how denisty and form affect the gameplay is one instance in the trailer where Walter is required to maintain a frozen ice-cube state to complete the level and he does this by keeping under dynamically moving shadows in order to prevent himself from melting.

It really looks like compelling stuff and while no formats have been announced, smart money is on an XBLA, PSN and Steam release sometime during the vague ‘2013’ release window that has been pegged for the game.

The trailer for ‘Walter’ is embedded below:

Walter is due to be released on formats to be announced sometime in 2013.

EA/DICE Confirms Double XP Weekend For Battlefield 3 This Weekend – Get A Better Return On Your Fragging

leave a comment »

EA has today announced that another ‘Double XP’ weekend is in the works for Battlefield 3 with the next lot of double XP grabbing festivities kicking off June 16 at 8.01am BST. For the uninitated or the painfully slow, this basically means that you’ll receive double the usual amount of XP across all matches on all maps when playing only on ranked servers. The double XP goodness ends June 18th at 7.49am BST and the promotion applies to the game on all formats; 360, PC and PS3.

Just what I need to get to rank 45 then – getting piss sick of seeing everybody else killing me and passively taunting me with their shiny, numbered emblems. The twats.

As an additional note, PC and 360 owners who decided to plonk some of the Queen’s down for Battlefield Premium will find that the Close Quarters expansion is available for download today; PS3 folk got knee deep in that shizz last week.

E3 2012 – Star Wars ‘1313’ Footage Airs On GTTV – Looks Very Pretty Indeed

leave a comment »

When the Star Wars 1313 announcement was made a week or so ago a lot of folks, including myself, groaned at the premise of having a Bounty Hunter title set in the Star Wars universe.

I mean, after all, the last one just turned out so well.  Spolier: It didn’t.

Now with the first footage now on the interweb as the result of a GameTrailers TV reveal, I feel I am now in the position to say two things.

Firstly, the game appears to have gone down the cover shooter route and doesn’t look particularly relevatory in doing so.  Secondly, it looks absolutely fucking gorgeous and is currently being run on a high-end PC rig with some seriously high-end shit inside of it.  To that end, it looks like that the game will likely arrive on next-gen consoles, rather than the current lot of creaky things.

The footage is embedded below:

Star Wars 1313 (possibly a codename), is likely due to release on both PC and next-gen console systems sometime in late 2013/early 2014.

E3 2012 – EA Releases Launch Trailer For Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Expansions No.2 – Close Quarters

with 2 comments

Following on from their Battlefield Premium announcement that was leaked here, comes the release of the launch trailer for the first Battlefield 3 DLC expansion pack that has launched since the game did back in September last year (Back to Karkand was available at launch).

Each of the Battlefield 3 expansion packs have been designed with a particular focus in mind.  Therefore, it shouldn’t be too difficult to guess what playstyle ‘Close Quarters’ will be gunning for.  The next pack after this one, Armored Kill, is due to be released in September and will focus almost exclusively on vehicle based combat; giving you huge maps with which to ply your thunderous exchanges of vehicle against vehicle in.

Take a look at the trailer below and see if the focus on infantry combat in ‘Close Quarters’ floats your boat:

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is available now for free on the PS3 if you’re a Battlefield Premium member.  A week later for 360 and PC owners who are Battlefield Premium members.  A week staggered after that for PS3 and then PC and 360 formats for £9.99/1,200 Microsoft Points respectively.

The official release schedule  for the expansion can be seen here:  http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/close-quarters

E3 2012 – XCOM Enemy Unknown (No, not the shit shooter one, the other one) Gets A Bit Of Trailerage

with one comment

2K Games and Sim City developer Maxis have released a trailer for their forthcoming strategy based XCOM title, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

As well as cribbing the moniker of the much loved turn based original which was released way back in the nineties, the game also boasts the same third person perspective, strategic gameplay and reserach and development to improve your soldiers, equipment, vehicles and even your home base.

You also get to autopsy aliens too.  Probably.

Though the trailer perhaps doesn’t show off the game in it’s best like (it looks like any other third person shooter really), trust me when I say that the game is shaping up to be a polished and highly enjoyable strategical gem.

The trailer can be seen by clicking on the embed below:

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is due to release on 360, PS3 and PC platforms this October.

E3 2012 – Capcom’s DmC Gets A Brand New Trailer; Much Swearing & Attitude Contained Therein – Release Date Of January 15th, 2013 Confirmed

leave a comment »

Sneaking under the radar whilst the Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft conferences were going on, was the latest trailer for Capcom’s Ninja Theory developed Devil May Cry reboot; DmC.

More of Dante’s unabashed attitude was on show alongside a generous smattering of in-game and cut-scene footage, all adding up to reinforce my increasing belief that this really won’t be shit at all.

Nope not at all.

See for yourself:

DmC is due to be released on 360, PS3 and PC platforms on January 15th, 2013.

E3 2012 – Ubisoft Conference: Brand New IP ‘Watch Dogs’ Unveiled – Looks Like A Cross Between Assassins Creed & Hacker. Looks Unbelievable.

with one comment

Ok.  We all knew that Assassins Creed 3 would steal the show for Ubi right? Sure, Splinter Cell would be hovering around in the same playground, but really, it was AC3’s time to shine and enjoy the spotlight without worry of peer or compeitition.

That plan went right out of the fucking window with ‘Watch Dogs’ a brand new IP from Ubisoft that puts the player in the shoes of a high tech espionage agent who can literally hack anything and turn the city to his advantage in order to terminate a target or secure information. It demonstrated on-stage and looked brutal, hard-edged and uncompromising.  It looked like some crazy bastard cross between Assassins Creed, Hacker and the Nolan Bat-verse, yet somehow, it transcended it’s supposed inspiration with a style and flair all it’s own.

E3 game of the show so far.  By far.

I’ll stop blabbering now, just watch the video of the demonstration below:

Watch Dogs is due to be released on platforms to be confirmed.  A date is to be announced.
